Rooted in craft

We wanted one room that got three things right at the same time: the coffee, the bread, and the welcome. That turned out to be harder than it sounds, which is roughly why Grata exists.

The coffee is sourced in small lots and roasted for clarity rather than for shock. We change origins with the season instead of pretending one blend works all year, and we would genuinely rather talk you into the cortado than sell you something sweeter. If a shot is not right, we pull it again — that is not a policy, it is just the job.

The bakery starts before the front door opens. Brownies get a long, slow bake for a fudged centre. Cookie dough rests overnight so the brown butter has time to do something interesting. Cupcakes change flavour weekly because we get bored too. Nothing arrives frozen, and when we sell out, we are out — which we think is the correct trade.

The word grata means welcome, pleasing, held in gratitude. It is the part people notice last and remember longest. Stay for one cup or four. Bring a laptop, a friend, or nobody at all. Nobody is going to hover near your table hoping you leave.
